[Past Event] Seminar | Preach When the Spirit Says Preach: Preaching and Leading in the Power of the Spirit

Seminar details:

In this seminar, we will learn together to follow the promptings of the Spirit in sermon preparation and delivery, and in worship leading. Drawing from the rich resources within our own tradition (Reformed) and the wider church as well as from the practical experiences of our pastorates, you will be invited to practice disciplines in your life that further open you to the person and work of the Holy Spirit.

Continuing education credits are available.

Leaders:

• Dave Beelen recently retired after 38 years of full-time service at Madison Square Christian Reformed Church — a diverse community of faith in Grand Rapids, Mich. He now does vocational formation work as a mentoring specialist at Calvin Seminary as well working with the seminary community in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Joy Bonnema: North Campus Pastor at Madison Square; she trains and equips leaders who will care for and disciple the church so together they grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus. Key ministries: Crisis Care Team and Small Groups Ministry.

Daily Schedule:

On each of the five days, our seminar begins promptly at 8:45am with Morning Prayers and concludes at noon with lunch. With the exception of one day when an extended conversation may be available, afternoons are free.

Application information:

Persons involved full-time in church ministries and those who prepare such persons for ministry are welcome to apply. Thanks to generous underwriting by the CEP, the cost for coming to this week-long event will be modest. The church of each participant accepted into the seminar will be asked to pay a $150 registration fee for its pastor, who will also receive a stipend from the CEP to help offset travel costs. Lodging will be provided at no charge at the Prince Conference Center on the Calvin College campus, beginning Sunday, August 2. Provided meals will include breakfast and lunch each day, Monday-Friday. Articles, web links or other resources that will be used for the seminar will be sent to the participants ahead of time, early enough to study these materials prior to the start of the seminar in August.
