And he discusses exactly the same questions of delivery (extemporaneous? outline? written out?) that preachers discuss. Same conclusion as the veteran Fosdick: “’In my opinion, a summation must be either written out or set down in a comprehensive outline. You need not only to say it, but to say it just right, say it powerfully. You have to write it out and then know it so well you can pick it up, page by page, with a quick glimpse down. If you know your summation really well you can deliver it with the appearance of spontaneity.”
