Theologians undertake thoughts “for God’s sake, and continue them as if they were an end in themselves, and then as if our pleasure in thinking were the end, and finally as if our pride or celebrity were the end.” Point: “The glory of God is a meaningless conceptual umbrella for most of us, covering but not hiding, our own pursuit of self-interest.”
